Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how MixedApe ("we," "us," or "the Service") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use the MixedApe website and application at mixedape.app.
The short version: We collect what we need to run the app (your account info, the songs you save, your Spotify connection if you link it, and payment info if you upgrade). We don't sell your data. We use Firebase, Stripe, Spotify, and a song-identification provider to operate. You can delete your account anytime.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Phone number — when you sign in via SMS verification (handled by Firebase Authentication)
- Spotify profile data — if you sign in or link your Spotify account, we receive your Spotify display name, email, profile photo, and Spotify ID via the Spotify Web API
- Display name and avatar — set by you in the app
Content You Create
- People you add to your account (names, relationships)
- Songs you save and the playlists you build
- Memories or notes you attach to songs
- Mixtapes you create and the messages you include with them
Audio Submitted for Song Identification
- When you tap the microphone to identify a song, a short audio clip (~5–15 seconds) is sent to a third-party music-recognition API. The audio is used solely to match the song and is not stored by MixedApe.
Payment Information
- If you upgrade to MixedApe Premium, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details — only a Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
Technical Information
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for security and debugging
- Authentication cookies (a single HttpOnly session cookie)
- Crash and error data via Sentry (with personal data scrubbed before transmission)
2. How We Use Information
- To operate the Service — let you sign in, save songs, build playlists, send mixtapes
- To process payments and manage your subscription
- To enforce free-tier limits and provide premium features to paying users
- To diagnose problems and prevent abuse
- To communicate with you about your account, when necessary
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your associated data from our database within 30 days. Backups may persist for up to 90 days. Some data may be retained longer if required for legal, fraud-prevention, or accounting purposes (for example, payment records held by Stripe).

- Access — view your account data anytime within the app
- Correction — edit your profile, songs, playlists at any time
- Deletion — request account deletion by emailing the address below; we'll process it within 30 days
- Cancel subscription — manage or cancel your Premium subscription at any time via the in-app billing portal
If you are in California, the EU, or the UK, you may have additional rights under applicable law (e.g., CCPA, GDPR, UK GDPR). Contact us to exercise them.
6. Children
MixedApe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices: HTTPS for all traffic, HttpOnly session cookies, encryption of payment data via Stripe, and the security controls provided by Google Firebase and Netlify. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

MixedApe is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your data is transferred to and processed in the United States.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email.
